Emerging Asia: five equity funds with the biggest inflows

This year global investors have poured millions into these five funds registered for sale in Asia and the Middle East

5. Quaero Capital Funds (Lux) – Bamboo

In fifth place was the Quaero Capital Funds (Lux) - Bamboo A USD fund, with inflows of £3.37 million ($4.26 million) in the five months ending 31 May.

Managed by Robert Lloyd George, the strategy has returned 21.9% in US dollar terms over the past three years ending 31 May, data from Citywire Discovery showed.

Launched in April 2015, the $52 million fund invests predominantly in equity or equity-related securities of companies located in emerging markets, with the main focus on Asia.

5. Quaero Capital Funds (Lux) – Bamboo

In fifth place was the Quaero Capital Funds (Lux) - Bamboo A USD fund, with inflows of £3.37 million ($4.26 million) in the five months ending 31 May.

4. Eastspring Investments-Dragon Peacock

The Eastspring Investments-Dragon Peacock D fund came in fourth in our rankings. The strategy has recorded inflows £4.77 million ($6.04 million) so far this year.

The fund is managed by A-rated Krishna Kumar, and returned 51.5% in US dollar terms over the past three years.

Launched in October 2005, the $175 million vehicle invests in corporations that derive substantial revenues from their operations in China and India.

3. JPMorgan Vietnam Opportunities

Ranking third, the JPMorgan Vietnam Opportunities (acc) – USD fund posted inflows of £8.83 million ($11.2 million) in the first five months of the year.

The vehicle is run by + rated Chang Qi Ong (pictured) and A-rated Isaac Thong. It returned 49.4% in US dollar terms over the past three years.

Launched in November 2007, the $339 million strategy invests primarily in companies that are either domiciled or listed in Vietnam. The fund’s holdings also include firms with actual or prospective operations, assets or investments in Vietnam that amount to at least $50 million or 10% of the gross assets of the company.

2. Eurizon Fund Equity Emerging Markets Smart Volatility

In second place is the Eurizon Fund Equity Em Markets Smart Volatility R fund. It gathered inflows of £64.73 million ($81.99 million) between January and May.

Run by Luigi Antonaci, the strategy returned -9% in the past one year ending 31 May.

Launched in October 1998, the $232 million fund has a quantitative investment approach. It invests in equity and equity-related instruments, including convertible bonds, issued by companies in emerging countries.

1. Schroder ISF Emerging Asia

Leading the pack is the Schroder ISF Emerging Asia A Acc fund with inflows of £92.4 million ($117.03 million) so far this year.

Managed by + rated Louisa Lo, the fund returned 43.4% over the past three years.

Launched in January 2004, the $3.6 billion strategy invests in equity and equity-related securities of companies in emerging Asia. The fund may invest in China B-shares and H-shares, and allocate less than 30% of its assets to China A-shares.
