Swiss boutique hires Standard Chartered quartet

Switzerland's EFG has made four hires from Standard Chartered to strengthen its coverage of growth markets.

Omar Omari joins the MENA team as a client relationship officer, according to an internal memo.

Omari brings over 15 years of experience in investment banking and wealth management, and will primarily focus on clients in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.

The second hire, John Hennessy, is a client support officer for the MENA team. Hennessy and Omari were previously on StanChart's Middle East team.

The other hires were for Global South Asia, with Mital Shah and Saionton Basu joining as client relationship officers.

Shah previously built a non-resident Indian portfolio at StanChart. Prior to that, she spent eight years at Citi.

Meanwhile, Basu brings a book of clients with a focus on India and Pakistan. He has also managed family offices and UHNWI divisions at top-tier law firms.

Michael Vlahovic, EFG's head of private banking, said: 'These hires are a continuation of the group’s 2022 growth plan of continued onboarding of net new assets via new CROs and additional client acquisition.

'It also dovetails with our own strategy of focusing on strengthening the teams in growth markets where we have existing expertise.'

EFG is working to base executives covering the Global South Asia niche out of Hong Kong and Dubai. Its regional GSA business is largely centered in Singapore, where it has 20 staff.
